Holding an A.R.C.T. in guitar performance and the winner of numerous awards including the silver medal award and Reinhold Scholarship from the Royal Conservatory of Music, Katherine Filippeos is a musician who exerts both passion and drive. In addition to her scholastic accomplishments, her vocal performing career has landed her Billboard charting status as well as Gold status on several compilation CD’s in Canada and the US. This incomparable combination of guitar and vocal is what undoubtedly gives Katherine a style of her own.
Beginning her performing career at the tender age of 14, Katherine has played several prestigious venues, which include: Massey Hall, The Music Hall, Roy Thompson Hall and the Toronto International Film Festival for the premiere of “Eastern Promises” (featuring: Viggo Mortenson & Naomi Watts) as well as Rachel Getting Married” (featuring Anne Hathaway) to name a few.
As a guitarist, Katherine’s work can be heard on several nationally released CD’s including “Spanish Café”, “Costa Rica” and “Mexican Wedding” released by Avalon records. Also a cultivated songwriter, she has written, arranged and recorded over 100 songs receiving radio play and notoriety in Canada and the U.S.
With diverse musical influences such as Paco de Lucia, Carlos Jobim, Sheryl Crow, Sarah Mclachlan and Pokito Chambao, her most recent album is a composite of her inspirations, which make for a truly unique sound. Her CD entitled “Nothing is Impossible” is an untapped organic performance of solo guitar and vocal, which for the first time exposes her entirely as a writing talent, vocalist and classically gifted guitarist.
